What to do with gently used equipment
We get dozens of inquiries each week with people asking what they should do with their used medical equipment when they no longer need it. Below are some suggestions for how to repurpose your used medical equipment.
Option 1: Donate to a charitable organization of your choice
Donating your gently used medical equipment is a great option. With a donation, you don’t get paid directly for your device, but you will receive a receipt that can be used for tax deductions. And, perhaps the most rewarding part of donating your equipment is knowing it will go to help another family in need.
You can choose any charitable organization, but I know Goodwill will treat your items with care and their mission helps provide career training and employment services across South Carolina. You can find a donation center at this website. https://www.goodwillsc.org/donate
Option 2: Resell your used medical equipment
Selling your equipment privately is another option to consider. There are many options in today’s marketplace. OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace, and ebay to name a few. Be sure to include high quality photos and an accurate description of the equipment for best results.
Option 3: Bring working equipment to us for repurposing
Many customers ask if we buy back their medical or mobility equipment as their loved one is no longer around to use the equipment. We do not offer a buy back on product that is older than 90 days. We will however help you repurpose your equipment to another family if you want to bring it to us. In the future we hope to have a Swap and Sell page to help our customers list items and sell to future buyers.

Can you help me with answers about Medicare and private insurance?
Medicare, Medicaid and Insurance: there are few topics that generate more questions from our customers. And it’s no wonder! Understanding coverage and eligibility for durable medical equipment is historically complex and confusing. In the last few years Medicare (federal program predominantly used for those 62+ in age), Medicaid state programs, and private insurance (such as United Anthem, Aetna, Cigna, etc…) have all significantly lowered their reimbursement amounts and increased the documentation requirements for most categories of durable medical equipment, including lift chairs, scooters, and Group 2 power wheelchairs (the type sold by us). This means that in over 95% of cases, mobility scooters, lift chairs and Group 2 power wheelchairs are not covered.
Therefore, we do not file claims with Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance.
With us, you pick the equipment you want, there is no prescription required, and there is no waiting for paperwork from a physician or for a prior authorization from Medicare. We welcome you to come into our showroom and talk with us. We will help you find a product that meets your needs as well as your budget.
Mobility Scooter Choices and Options
Where to start?
Come in to our showroom at 1310 Garlington Rd. or give us a call with all of your questions. We will help explain the differences and help you decide what works best for you. It really comes down to personal preference.
Mobility Scooters come in many shapes and sizes. We carry all of the top brands like Pride Mobility, Golden Technologies, Drive, Afikim, Enhanced Mobility, and Merits.
Can a person travel with me on my mobility scooter
Most mobility scooters are designed to only hold the weight of the user. Therefore you would not want to carry someone with you on your mobility scooter. Having too much weight may cause the scooter to topple and cause injury to you and or your passenger.
We do carry Afikim scooters which can ordered with a double seat.
What is the difference between a 3 and 4 wheel scooter?
Generally speaking 3-wheel scooters have a tighter turn radius and are more compact. 4-wheel scooters have a wider wheel base.
Both are good for getting around, but personal preference should be taken into account.
What is the reimbursement criteria for Manual Wheelchairs?
My Mobility Medics does not submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. The following information is for informational purposes only
What is the reimbursement criteria for Scooters?
My Mobility Medics does not submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. The following information is for informational purposes only
Power-operated vehicle/scooter
If you can’t use a cane or walker, or can’t operate a manual wheelchair, you may qualify for a power-operated scooter, if you can safely get in and out of it and are strong enough to sit up and safely operate the controls. Note: If you don’t need a scooter on a long-term basis, you can rent the equipment to lower your costs. Talk to your supplier to find out more about this option.
What is the reimbursement criteria for Power Wheelchairs?
My Mobility Medics does not submit claims to Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance. The following information is for informational purposes only
If you can’t use a manual wheelchair in your home, or if you don’t qualify for a power-operated scooter because you aren’t strong enough to sit up or to work the scooter controls safely, you may qualify for a power wheelchair. Note: Before you get either a power wheelchair or scooter, you must have a face-to-face exam with your doctor. The doctor will review your needs and help you decide if you can safely operate the device. If so, the doctor will submit a written order telling Medicare why you need the device and that you’re able to operate it. Tips: You must have a medical need for Medicare to cover a power wheelchair or scooter. Medicare won’t cover this equipment if it’ll be used mainly for leisure or recreational activities, or if it’s only needed to move around outside your home.
