Don't get caught when the power goes out
We have received a few calls regarding the upcoming weather and potential interruption in electrical services. A lot of the equipment we rent, sell, and service requires electricity to operate. If you have a generator, then you should be good. If not, then there are some precautions you should consider taking.
Most of the newer lift recliners come with a lithium-ion battery that will help you to get your chair back to the seated position. All the older models have a place for either two or four 9-volt batteries in or around the power transformer. Again, this should get you back to the seated position. Each lift recliner is different (number of actuators, size and weight of the chair and size and weight of the user, health of the battery backup, etc.), so it is not possible to know how many up and down cycles you will get so be aware of these limitations.
Hospital beds sometimes come with backups; if you did not specifically ask for a battery backup when you rented or purchased, then most likely you do not have one.
Scooters and power wheelchairs do not come with battery backups.
One thing you can do it purchase an uninterruptible power supply (UPS). These are basically batteries that provide immediate, short-term backup power to connected equipment during a utility power outage or voltage drop. If you decide to purchase a UPS, get at least a 400VA backup, and make sure to plug your lift recliner and/ or bed into a battery backup outlet and not one of the surge outlets.
Please give us a call if you have questions, and stay safe.
God Bless…
